IPL 2024: Navjot Singh Siddhu reacts to Rohit Sharma vs Hardik Pandya captaincy row, video gone viral
Xtra Time Web Desk: Navjot Singh Sidhu's statement on the controversy surrounding the Mumbai Indians' decision to appoint Hardik Pandya as captain over Rohit Sharma is reflective of his characteristic flair and diplomatic approach. Sidhu's words convey a sense of respect for Rohit Sharma's achievements while acknowledging the authority bestowed upon Pandya.
In essence, Sidhu suggests that Rohit Sharma's stature and legacy as a cricketer remain intact regardless of who holds the captaincy position. This viewpoint is likely aimed at diffusing tensions and highlighting the professionalism expected from players, irrespective of their roles within the team structure.

Sidhu said, "I have played in an Indian team where five captains used to pay together. Kapil Dev, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Krishnamachari Srikkanth and Ravi Shastri. Pick up a brick and you will find a captain both above and below it. There were no issues because they were playing for their nation. The motivation was to play for your country. So, playing under Hardik does not make Rohit smaller."
“MS Dhoni has also given his captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. The Mumbai franchise could also have made Pandya the captain like Ruturaj Gaikwad but no, the franchise saw that Rohit could not get the team any IPL title in three years, he made Pandya the captain. He also said that one has to work hard to become a player like Rohit."
Sidhu's statement may serve to encourage acceptance of the team management's decision among fans and players alike, emphasizing the need to support the team's leadership choices for the greater good of Mumbai Indians' performance in the IPL.
