IPL 2024: KKR name Phil Salt as replacement for Jason Roy

Xtra Time Web Desk: Phil Salt has been named as the replacement for Jason Roy by Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming IPL 2024. Roy has decided to withdraw from the upcoming season due to personal reasons. Despite representing Delhi Capitals in the previous season, Salt went unsold in this year’s auction, marking his second stint in the IPL.

Salt, the aggressive wicket-keeper batter from England, had an impactful season with Delhi Capitals last year, playing nine games and accumulating 218 runs at an impressive strike rate of 163.91. Despite facing an unsold status in the recent auction, he remains a promising addition to the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Acquired at his reserve price of INR 1.5 crore, Salt brings with him recent successes, notably scoring two consecutive T20I centuries against the West Indies in December of the preceding year. His 48-ball century in the 4th T20I at Trinidad stands as the joint-fastest for England, showcasing his explosive batting prowess.

With a renewed opportunity in the IPL, Phil Salt aims to replicate his past successes and contribute significantly to the Kolkata Knight Riders’ campaign in IPL 2024.
