IPL 2024: KKR captain Shreyas Iyer out for 0 on against SRH at Eden Gardens
Xtra Time Web Desk: Shreyas Iyer's return to the IPL in 2024 didn't quite go as planned, as he was dismissed for a duck in Kolkata Knight Riders' season opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad. This setback only added to KKR's top-order struggles against SRH at the Eden Gardens on March 22. T Natarajan of SRH claimed his wicket, marking his 50th in the competition.
Iyer's comeback to the IPL was eagerly awaited after missing the previous season due to a back injury. However, his early dismissal put KKR under pressure against SRH's bowling attack.

The batter has been facing scrutiny since losing his BCCI central contract due to reported leniency towards domestic cricket commitments. Despite being part of the Indian squad against England in the Test series, Iyer's performances were lackluster, leading to his dropping after the second Test in Vizag. This slump in form cost him his place in the national team despite his notable performances in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
His return to domestic cricket with Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy semifinal against Tamil Nadu didn't start well either, as he was dismissed cheaply. However, Iyer redeemed himself with a crucial innings of 95 runs against Vidarbha in the Ranji Final, contributing significantly to Mumbai's victory.

KKR fans will be hoping for a turnaround in fortunes for their skipper in the IPL 2024 season. A positive performance from Iyer would not only benefit the team but also enhance his chances of a national team comeback, a goal that would surely be on his mind.
