IPL 2024: How Surykumar Yadav changed his habits for make his comeback? find out
Xtra Time Web Desk: Suryakumar Yadav's decision to only watch half of his side's games on match days stems from his commitment to changing his routine to aid his recovery process. After being sidelined since December of the previous year due to an ankle injury and subsequently undergoing surgery for a sports hernia, Surya missed the initial part of the 2024 cricket season. His absence extended to Mumbai Indians' (MI) first three matches in the IPL 2024 season while he underwent rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Yadav received medical clearance to return during the MI vs DC clash. However, his comeback was less than ideal, as he was dismissed for a duck. In an interview with the IPL's website, Yadav explained his modified routine, revealing that he would watch only half of the matches. This adjustment allowed him to prioritize sleep, aiming to retire by 10:30 PM each night and rise early to continue his rehabilitation regimen. Such dedication highlights Yadav's commitment to both his recovery and his team's performance, showcasing his determination to return to full form on the cricket field.

"It is always difficult when your team is playing, sitting in the room and watching the game. I can't say that I didn't watch the game, I watched half the games, because I was sleeping on time when I was in Bengaluru. 10:30, 10:45. So I used to watch only half the innings and I would watch the whole game next day."
"It was difficult, but it gave me a lot of motivation and inspiration looking at them that yes, they're playing and I have to work hard on my recovery and get there as soon as possible," said Suryakumar.
Suryakumar Yadav took a proactive approach to his recovery from injury by seeking advice from both the staff at the NCA and his wife. Their advice to come back from the injury as the best version of himself seems to have resonated with him.
To achieve this, he adopted several positive habits such as prioritizing adequate sleep, maintaining a good diet, and cultivating the habit of reading. These actions likely contributed not only to his physical recovery but also to his overall well-being and personal development. By focusing on these aspects of his life, Suryakumar Yadav may have enhanced his chances of returning to cricket stronger and more prepared than ever before.

"When I spoke to my wife and the staff at NCA, they said it has to be the second version of yourself. You have to be a little different when you return to the field."
"With that in mind, I started to sleep on time, following a good diet, that was most important. I never read a book in my life, I started doing that as well. Getting up in the morning, spending a good amount of time in the rehab centre. Connecting myself, my body and brain with the rehab."
"I did well to recover a bit faster, because I had two three niggles together. Sports hernia, ankle, then right knee. So I had to take one step at a time, you know small small things and here I am," said Surya.
MI and Suryakumar will next be in action against RCB on April 11.
