IPL 2024: BCCI calls IPL owners meet on April 16 as mega auction, player retentions on agenda
Xtra Time Web Desk: BCCI is holding an emergency meeting amidst the IPL. The meeting has been called with the owners and key officials of the IPL teams for April 16th. The meeting will take place in Ahmedabad. On that day, the match between Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals is schedule. All the franchises of the IPL have been invited. Alongside the owners, the CEOs and top officials will also be present.
The BCCI President Roger Binny, Secretary Jay Shah, and Chairman of IPL governing council Arun Dhumal will be presen. Everyone has also been sent invitations. The agenda of the meeting is not known. However, discussions will be held on policy matters keeping in mind the mega auction next year. It will be discussed how to take IPL further ahead.

"The IPL owners have been invited for an informal meeting. There is no set agenda. Since the IPL will be into its second month, it will be a good time for all stake-holders to get together," a BCCI official told PTI.
There is a lot of discussion expected in the meeting regarding the retention policy, or the policy of retaining cricketers. Many franchises want to retain more cricketers so that they can be kept stronger and the team can be made even stronger. Some have suggested retaining eight cricketers. Others have suggested informing a few that fewer cricketers should be retained. This will increase the popularity of each team equally. Alongside this, there will also be discussions on whether to use the right-to-match card.

At the same time, there might be discussions on the salary cap of the teams. Earlier, each team could spend 100 crores in the auction. It is set to increase. Because, from the revenue generated from broadcasting rights, the board has distributed among the teams, the amount of profit for the teams is much higher than before.
