IPL 2024: After Russell, Gautam Gambhir now defends Chandrakant Pandit’s coaching style approach
Xtra Time Web Desk: Amidst the controversy surrounding Kolkata Knight Riders' head coach Chandrakant Pandit's coaching style, mentor Gautam Gambhir has stepped forward to defend the seasoned coach. The allegations of a 'militant-style' approach, as voiced by former KKR all-rounder David Wiese during the IPL 2023 season, have drawn attention to Pandit's methods.
Wiese, in a candid revelation on the 'Hitman for Hire: A year in the life of a franchise cricketer' podcast, characterized Pandit as a stringent disciplinarian, citing difficulties faced by some overseas players in adjusting to his coaching philosophy. Gambhir, however, refutes these claims, emphasizing Pandit's exceptional record in first-class cricket and attesting to their positive working relationship.

Addressing the allegations, Gambhir asserts, "I have not heard about any criticism. It's been early days, and my working relationship with him has been really very good. Hopefully, it will continue that way. Whatever has been said, I have no clue about it. I think he has been pretty successful in first-class cricket, and that is the reason why he has got this opportunity. So far, it has been really good working with him."
Adding to the defines, KKR's seasoned all-rounder Andre Russell lends his support to Pandit, highlighting the necessity for players to adapt to the coach's principles and abide by established rules. Russell emphasizes professionalism, stating, "We’ve been working with him from last year. I think when you're working with a coach for the first time, you have to make sure that you adjust to their philosophy. There have to be rules. We are professionals. So, we don't complain."
