IPL 2023: Prerak Mankad hurled nut and bolt by a section of crowd at Hyderabad during Sunrisers game against LSG

Xtra Time Web Desk: The Indian Premier League match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on May 13 was briefly halted because of an incident involving crowd trouble. A nut and bolt was thrown towards the Lucknow Super Giants dug-out after a section of the crowd got angry with a controversial no-ball.

What was the actual incident? It was the fourth ball of the19th over bowled by LSG’s Avesh Khan. He bowled a high full-toss to Abdul Samad, only to be called a no ball. Heinrich Klaasen standing at the non-striker’s end got furious. Lucknow Super Giants players challenged the decision and the reviews showed it was a fair delivery. The on-field umpire had to overturn the decision.

Immediately a section of the home crowd got restless.  An object was subsequently thrown at the LSG dug-out. Play had to be stopped briefly as the players safety and security was a concern. At this time Hyderabad fans also targeted LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir, shouting “Kohli, Kohli” at him.

It was later found out that someone from the crowd threw nuts and bolts towards the LSG dugout. Jonty Rhodes commented on the report through Twitter and added:

Not at the dugout, but at the players. They hit Prerak Mankad on the head while he was fielding at long-on”

Such kind of acts are totally uncalled for as players safety and security is paramount. Jonty Rhodes was absolutely correct in saying Not-On.
