IPL 2023: Mark Boucher becomes the new head coach of Mumbai Indians

Xtra Time Web Desk: Mark Boucher, the former wicket keeper batsman of South Africa has been appointed as the new head coach of Mumbai Indians after the promotion of Mahela Jayawardene as the Global Head of Performance of Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians has declared the announcement on Friday on their official Twitter handle.

A few days back, Mark Boucher announced his desire to step down from the role of South African head coach after the T20 World Cup 2022.

The former South African wicket taker batsman was a part of KKR in 2016 as a wicket keeping coach. He has played for various franchises including Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

After the official announcement of the Mumbai Indians’ head coach for the upcoming season,
Akash Ambani, the Chairman of Reliance Jio said “It’s a pleasure to welcome Mark Boucher to Mumbai Indians. With his proven expertise on the field and off it as a coach guiding his team to numerous victories, Mark will add immense value to MI and take forward its legacy.”

Mark Boucher the current Head Coach of Mumbai Indians said, “It is an honor and privilege to be appointed as Head Coach of MI. Their history and achievements as a franchise clearly put them up there as one of the most successful sporting franchises in all of world sport. I look forward to the challenge and respect the need for results. It’s a strong unit with great leadership and players. I look forward to adding value to this dynamic unit.”

The former wicketkeeper-batsman has still holds the record for the most Test dismissals by a wicket-keeper. As the South African coach, Boucher has 11 Test wins, 12 ODI wins, and 23 T20I victories.
