Xtra Time Web Desk : Team India batter Ajinkya Rahane was signed up on Sunday by the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise for his base price of INR 1 Crore.

The signing which raised a lot of eyebrows, especially in relevance with the current lean patch that the 33 year old is going through, was justified by Jahnavi Mehta, the co owner of KKR as she opened up on why the franchise signed him.

Talking about securing Rahane’s services in an interview with Star Sports, Mehta stated, “Definitely Rahane was a value buy for us. He has been around for ages and adds a lot in terms of leadership. We lost out on Shubhman Gill and Ajinkya can perform that role. He will allow Venkatesh Iyer to play his role and would be the perfect foil.”

Now with Ajinkya Rahane replacing Shubman Gill in the Knight Riders set up, it will be interesting to see how it helps the franchise especially considering the former’s IPL experience with Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals.
