IPL 2021: Sunil Gavaskar names this cricketer who can be groomed into the role Hardik plays for India

Xtra Time Web Desk: Former India legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is impressed with the performance of Venkatesh Iyer so far in the second leg of IPL 2021. The Kolkata Knight Rider’s cricketer has impressed everyone with his all round ability. Gavaskar reckons Iyer can be the all rounder the Indian team is looking for. With Hardik Pandya’s lack of bowling in matches, Iyer stands a chance of making it to the Indian team in future.

“In Venkatesh Iyer, Kolkata have unearthed a player who can be the all-rounder that India is looking for. His bowing is not express, but he gets the yorker right more than not and doesn’t let the batsman slog him. As a batsman, he plays upright, which gets into a great position to play the short ball, and he drives beautifully through the off-side like all left-handers seem to do,” wrote Gavaskar in his column for Times of India.

Team India all rounder Hardik Pandya has recently not bowled regularly for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021 second leg. With Iyer’s knack of bowling Yorkers at will in the death over along with his hard hitting prowess with the bat, Iyer could be the cricketer who can fit in the role played by Hardik in Team India.
