T20 World Cup 2021: BCCI likely to take this big decision for Indian cricketers

Xtra Time Web Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is mulling the idea of bringing the final of IPL 2021 ahead by a few days in UAE.  As per the tentative schedule the final of IPL2021 is going to take place two days before the start of T20 World Cup. IPL 2021 Phase 2 will get underway on September 19 with the final scheduled to take place on October 15. The T20 World Cup is slated to begin from October 17 as per the International Cricket Council (ICC).

So the Indian cricketers will hardly get any substantial rest before the T20 World Cup. Remember most of the Indian cricketers (exception of Hanuma Vihari and Abhimanyu Easwaran) will be joining the IPL bubble straight from England series. So it will be non-stop cricket for them heading into the T20 World Cup.

The test series against England concludes on September 14. The Indian cricketers will reach UAE on September 15 and enter the bubbles of respective franchises.

As per reports, BCCI is thinking about scheduling the IPL 2021 final on October 10 which will give the Indian cricketers substantial rest ahead of the T20 World Cup. India’s matches in T20 World Cup will be during the third week of October. So they will get ample time for rest ahead of the marquee event.

By preponing the final of IPL 2021, BCCI will have another important purpose solved. As per the ICC protocols it is mandatory to hand over the grounds and wickets at least two weeks before the start of major tournament. If the IPL 2021 final is held on October 10, the wickets and grounds can be handed over to ICC at least two weeks before the start of the main tournament i.e., on October 24. So it will be a win win situation for both BCCI and ICC
