Xtra Time Web Desk: Second half strikes from Raheem Sterling (75’) and Harry Kane (86’) saw hosts England beat Germany 2-0 in EURO 2020 pre-quarter finals at the Wembley stadium on Tuesday. It was the first time since 1966 that England has beaten their arch rivals in a knock out game. Gareth Southgate’s boys will now meet the winner of Sweden and Ukraine in the quarter finals in Rome on Saturday.

Raheem Sterling once again gave England the lead. He steered Luke Shaw’s cross past Manuel Neur in the 75th minute to see the stadium erupt in joy. It was Sterling’s third strike in four matches. England captain Harry Kane secured the win for the Three Lions after heading home a Jack Grealish cross in the 86th minute.

Jordan Pickford was once again brilliant under the bar as he is yet to concede a goal in the tournament. It was his brilliance that failed Timo Werner and Kai Havertz from scoring in each half, while Thomas Muller missed a glorious chance to equalize in the 81st minute.

It was redemption for the England manager too as he missed a vital penalty against the same opponents in the quarter finals of Euro 96. For Joachim Low, it was a disappointing end to an illustrious career as manager of Germany.
