IPL 2020: You have to be clear in your head, says Trent Boult after a match winning performance

XtraTime Web Desk: Sharjah witnessed another high scoring match as Mumbai Indians faced Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday afternoon.

Batting first, Mumbai put up a total of 208 runs in 20 overs. The South African, Quinton de Kock scored 67 of 39 balls and others contributed their bit. Pollard and Krunal Pandya hit few sixes in the end and ended up scoring a great total.

Hyderabad had a decent start. They were 56 for 1 after the powerplay. Captain David Warner scored 60 of 44 balls but no one supported him in the middle. Manish Pandey was the second highest scorer of the team with 30 runs. The inexperienced middle order of Hyderabad tried but it was wasn’t enough as Mumbai Indians beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 34 runs. Trent Boult bowled beautifully and gave away 28 runs in his 4 overs and took 2 crucial wickets of Bairstow and Kane Williamson. With this win, Mumbai Indians registered their 3rd win of the tournament.

Trent Boult was chosen as the Man of the Match. In the post match conference the Kiwi said, “We had watched a bit of cricket played on this wicket. Small ground too. Good effort by the boys.”

Boult also talked about his bowling style as well as his fellow friend Kane Wlliamson. “We had something to bowl to. I am known for swing and not for slower ones with the new ball, but you just use variations and angles. Have a bit of fun. I don’t actually get Kane out too much in the nets. So nice to do so, but more important to get the wicket.”

Speaking about the hot and humid condition at Sharjah, Boult said, “Very foreign conditions for me, very hot, but you have to be clear in your head. Execute what you want to do, and not worry about the ball travelling out of the park.”

Rohit Sharma was happy with the performance of his team. In the post match conference, he said, “The wicket looked good but it was slightly on the slower side so getting past 200 was a great effort. We didn’t have any total in mind. We back our bowlers to do the job. And that’s what they did.”

When asked about their middle order, Rohit said, “We decide the middle order depending on how the game is going. Match-ups, match situation etc. It is great to have three power hitters. Today Krunal also showed his value.”

Rohit clearly said that he leaves the bowlers to plan their own game and he doesn’t impose anything on them. “You come with bowling plans. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but you have to bowl the best delivery at the time. I don’t try to impose my plans on them. I want them to give me their plan, and then I set the field. It is always nice to have bowlers who do that.”

The losing captain David Warner in the post match conference said, “Looking at the stats, their two experienced bowlers bowled well in the middle overs. That wicket during the day is a little bit slower. It was holding up a fraction.”

David Warner also cleared where his team went wrong. He said, “Obviously, 209 on the board, we tried to go 10 an over, but we couldn’t get a partnerhsip strung together long enough. Two new guys coming in today with Bhuvi injured as well. A lot of things we can work on in training. I counted probably seven or eight full tosses towards the back end. From the execution point of view, we didn’t nail that.”
