IPL 2020: Faf Du Plessis opens up on his change of role in CSK

XtraTime Web Desk: Faf Du Plessis, the 36 year old South African is an integral part of Chennai Super Kings team. He’s been part of the CSK set up since 2011. As a senior member of the squad, Du Plessis explained his role in the team. He said, “It’s been a great journey for me. I’m very grateful for my time at CSK. Starting as a youngster, I wanted to learn as much as I can from all the great experienced heads in our changing room and here we are 9 years later am still with the team. So, I’m grateful to be able to just be among the great group of cricketers. My role now is a bit more experienced and one of the experienced guys in the team. We have a lot of them in the dressing room. We see them as a asset that we have. Now, I see myself as a guy using experience and trying to be as consistent as I can in the dressing room and on the park.”

Mumbai Indians has been the biggest rival to the Chennai team. Last year they lost the IPL final against Mumbai. Thus beating them to start the campaign was very necessary for Chennai. Speaking to Murali Karthik, Faf said, “So I’ll say Mumbai really took us to the thin. I think we lost 4 games to them (before beating them in the last match). So, they are a fantastic team and obviously we desperately wanted to start off well in the other night. I think both of the team had a little bit of rust and also some real good signs for both teams. So, great start to the campaign for us. Today is another great opportunity to make sure we improve everyday when we get out there.”

Catching has been a problem in this IPL. In both the matches we had, we have witnessed that players are having difficulties in catching the ball. Faf said, “I think it’s natural you know. There’s been a big break from the game so expect one or two skill set to be as high as used to before the break that we had. Luckily for me they stuck but also I had to do some work leading up to the match. Just to make sure that I sharpen my skills a bit again to be ready for the match”.
