IPL 2019: This season’s most expensive buy has gone through a dull season so far

XtraTime Web Desk: Indian Premier League can also be called as the Indian Paisa League as there are many cricketers who hadn’t played any competitive cricket in international arena but the franchise has bought them with crores of rupees. After this year’s auction the most talked cricketer was Varun Chakravarthy.

He was the joint-most expensive player to be sold at the IPL 2019 auction, the mystery spinner from Tamil Nadu ahead of the season. But after 9 matches this season the Kings XI Punjab’s Rs 8.4 crore-bid player has played just one match.

The uncapped 27-year-old, who is known to bowl seven different variations, returned with 1/35 in their KXIP’s second game of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders, dismissing a well-set Nitish Rana for 63. But in the next game, Varun was replaced by Murugan Ashwin and he never found his way back into the team.

A TNPL breed, Varun CV has mystery tag strapped around his back, with a bowling action resembling Sri Lankan mystery spinner, Ajanta Mendis. Varun started his cricket career as a wicket-keeper in his school days. Then turned into a medium-pacer as he grew up before quitting a high profile architect job and eventually settled with bowling spin, thanks to his knee injury.
