IPL 2019: This is what Steve Smith said about Rahane after replacing him as captain of RR

XtraTime Web Desk: Rajasthan Royals new skipper Steve Smith on Saturday declared that Ajinkya Rahane will continue to be a part of the leadership group of the franchise. Smith was drafted in as the captain of the Pink Army following a not so impressive show under Rahane.

“Ajinkya has done a terrific job in the last year and a half. The owners and the management thought there was a need for a change in the leadership. He (Rahane) is still part of our leadership group going forward and have a big influence but yeah I am taking the reins,” said Smith ahead of his team’s clash against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

It will not be new as far as leadership in the cash rich league is concerned. The Australian had previously led Rising Pune Supergiants during the 2017 season.

“I have done a bit of leadership in the IPL and had a little bit of success. Hopefully I can lead this team well. We haven’t had a great season so far but there are plenty of games to go and hopefully we can turn it around,” said a confident Smith.

Rajasthan Royals are currently seventh in the points table of the ongoing IPL, having picked four points from eight matches.
