IPL 2019: Jos Buttler’s run out by Ravichandran Ashwin sparked serious controversy

XtraTime Web Desk: Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler was given run out while he was in the non strikers end by the third umpire while Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin found Buttler out of the non strikers’ crease which is certainty not in the spirit of the game.

The dismissal is called ‘mankading’. One that comes to mind after this is legendary Indian captain Kapil Dev. Kapil dismissed Peter Kirsten after being warned couple of times back in 1991-92 India’s Tour of South Africa but this time Ashwin didn’t warn the English batsman. Another incident which comes in mind is Railways cricketer Murali Karthik did the same thing against Bengal’s Sandipan Das during 2012-13 Ranji Trophy season. Former Australian batsman Mathew Hayden described it as a terrible thing. While former Indian spinner Laxman Shivaramakrisnan supported the gesture done by Ashwin.

The incident took place in the 13th over of the Royals’ run-chase after the visiting team, led by Ravi Ashwin, put on a significant 184 for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs courtesy of a special knock of 79 from 47 balls with eight boundaries and four sixes. As far as the controversy is concerned, it took place between Jos Buttler and Ashwin and it turned out to be a heated one.
