Kolkata: Subha Ghosh has undoubtedly been one of the finest talents in Indian football these days. An exciting youngster who entertained everyone with his brilliant skills and goalscoring prowess even in the limited opportunities he got in the last season for Mohun Bagan. Even when the other Indian players have started finalizing their future in different clubs, Subha is still waiting for the season to be over before taking a call. In an interaction with XtraTime.in journalist Suman Chakraborty, Subha talked about his journey, his plans and of course Kibu Vicuna. Here goes the conversation: XT: From Mohun Bagan U19 squad to the Senior Mohun Bagan side. And then from there to become an instrumental figure in the I-League winning squad. How has been the journey? Subha: It has been a dream. The credit goes to Kibu Vicuna Sir. He is the reason why I have become a professional footballer. Else I afraid I would have still been there in the U19 squad. XT: How did he (Kibu Vicuna) inspire you? Subha: He was special. He always used to inspire me before coming on as a substitute. He transformed the team into a family. We used to play for each other. During the training he always used to be serious. But there were times when he used to have fun just like a happy family. During the training I always used to try and learn new things and Kibu Sir used to guide me with the help of Ranjan Chowdhury Sir (Assistant Coach, Mohun Bagan). I will always remember the season for Kibu Sir. XT: Tell us something about the dressing room or the players who used to help you the most... Subha: Well, I got help from everyone. Everyone used to love me. But players like Papa Diawara and Fran Gonzalez were amazing. During the training I used to try and play one touch with Beitia. He is terrific in it. During the game, I always used to motivate myself by telling myself, when I am playing with a classy forward like Diawara, I need to compliment him on the field, I can be equally important for the team on my own way. I tried, achieved a bit as well to contribute for my team. XT: Any plan for the next season? Subha: Honestly, I haven't decided as yet. Yes we are Champions but season is officially not over as yet. I will take a call after talking to Mohun Bagan officials and my parents. But of course, my desire is to play in the ISL. The most important thing for me though will be to get more playing time. So, I-League or ISL - I will take the decision after season gets over. XT: The dream you want to achieve... Subha: One has been achieved already by winning the I-League. I have of course the desire to play for the national team. In terms of Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, I came up from the youth ranks of Mohun Bagan, so I always have an emotional connect with the club and the fans. So in a way my dream is to keep improving and to play for the National Team. XT: How has been the lockdown days? Subha: In a way, it is a bit boring. But we have to stay indoors for safety. I am doing free-hand exercises to keep myself fit these days.
