Xtra Time Web Desk: England will head off to the Euros with two wins from two, but not in convincing style against Romania at the Riverside. It was far from impressive display from Gareth Southgate’s boys as they beat Romania 1-0. Southgate will have a lot to think about before they take on Croatia in the first match of Euro 2020 at Wembley next week.

Marcus Rashford scored the only goal in the match from a penalty in the 68th minute. The scoreline would have been lot more different as both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jadon Sancho had hit the crossbar. Jordan Henderson then had the chance to make it two with another England penalty, only to see his low attempt saved.

It was a special moment for Marcus Rashford. The Manchester United striker was the 125th footballer to lead the Three Lions.  It was England’s first win over Romania since 1970.

Speaking after the game Rashford said: “It was a difficult game, we had to work hard and stick together. It was challenging defensively, we created a lot of chances.

“We were good from set-plays, both attacking and defensively.”

There will be no doubt changes in starting line-up from the one which will take to the pitch next Sunday.
