Xtra Time Web Desk: England opener Dom Sibley played an anchor innings of 60* from 207 balls as the hosts settle for a draw against BlackCaps in the first test at Lords on Sunday. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson declared on 169/6 at lunch on the final day, meaning England had to chase 273 runs to win from 75 overs. But England never looked like going for the chase as they settled for 170/3 from 70 overs.

Earlier on the final day, New Zealand added another 107 runs from their overnight score of 62/2 in the morning session.

England, though, showed no appetite to attack and it was the tourists who gave themselves a glimmer of hope of victory when Joe Root’s men slipped from 49-0 to to 56-2 shortly before tea following the exits of first-innings centurion Rory Burns (25 off 81 balls) and Zak Crawley (2 off 25).

Sibley remained not out on 60 which included just three hits to the fence. England captain Joe Root scored 40 off 71 as he and Sibley added 80 runs for the third wicket to take away any semblance of a chance for the BlackCaps to win the test match. Ollie Pope remained not out on 20 off 41 balls.

Both sides will now travel to Birmingham to play the second test at Edgbaston which starts on Thursday, June 10.
