Inspiring story of Rovman Powell: From growing up in extreme poverty to winning matches in IPL
Xtra Time Web Desk: Do you know Rovman Powell had to shepherd goats for a living? The Jamaican all rounder had to go through enormous struggles and poverty while growing up. Every six the Delhi Capitals batter hit during Thursday nights IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad must have brought smiles of joy for his family.
Powell played a stunning 67 runs knock off just 35 balls to see Delhi Capitals post a daunting 207 runs against SRH. He smashed 6 massive sixes during his blazing knock. His strike rate was a whopping 191.43. Powell’s brutal strike overshadowed David Warner’s superb knock of 92 runs.
Talking about Rovman Powell’s early life, he grew up in a ram shackled tin-roofed unpainted structure in Kingston. He had to go through extreme poverty. Rovman’s father left his mother Joan when she was pregnant. She struggled to make a living and started doing odd jobs to support her family. A young Rovman grew up watching her mother wash clothes for people just to make a living, just to put food for us, just for him to go to school.
Even today whenever Powell faced with tough challenges, he tells himself he is not doing it for himself but for his mother and sister.
Powell once promised his mother that he is going to her out of poverty in cricket. And the humble Caribbean all-rounder kept his promise.

On the other hand, we denounce with righteous indignation and dislike men who are so beguiled and demoralized by the charms of pleasure of the moment
