INDvsENG, 2nd Test: Bumrah pick six-wickets as India take a lead by 171 runs after Day 2

Xtra Time Web Desk: In a spectacular display of bowling prowess on the second day of the second Test between India and England in Vizag, Jasprit Bumrah showcased his brilliance by claiming six wickets to bowl out England for a total of 253 runs. Bumrah’s notable achievement was dismissing England’s captain Ben Stokes (47), marking his 150th Test wicket and triggering a middle-order collapse after England had been comfortably positioned at 114-1.

Bumrah, with figures of 6-45, efficiently cleaned up the tail, getting Tom Hartley (21) caught in the slips and trapping James Anderson (6) lbw, enabling India to take a substantial 143-run lead into their second innings. As India’s captain, Rohit Sharma (13no), and Yashasvi Jaiswal (15no) returned to the crease, they added 28 runs to take a formidable lead by 171 runs.

Earlier in the match, Yashasvi Jaiswal crafted a magnificent innings, reaching his maiden Test double century with a remarkable 209 runs. His 290 ball knock included 19 fours and seven sixes, propelling India to a total of 396 in their first innings. The left hander added 60 runs to their overnight score, losing the last four wickets to the trio of Anderson (3-47), Rehan Ahmed (3-65), and Shoaib Bashir (3-138), who each picked up three wickets.

Jaiswal’s double century came off 277 balls, with a flourish of shots, making him the third youngest Indian player to achieve this milestone. England’s openers, Ben Duckett (21) and Zak Crawley (76), managed to reach lunch unscathed, but Kuldeep Yadav (3-71) broke their 59-run partnership by dismissing Duckett.

Crawley showcased fluent batting, capitalizing on a dropped chance by Shubman Gill at short mid-wicket. However, a leading edge off left-arm spinner Axar Patel (1-24) saw him depart, with Shreyas Iyer taking a sensational low diving catch at backward point. Bumrah then played a pivotal role, dismissing Joe Root (5) for the eighth time and inducing panic as Ollie Pope’s (23) stumps were sent cartwheeling with a perfect yorker. Bumrah’s wide ball tempted Jonny Bairstow (25), resulting in an edge to Gill at first slip, and Yadav contributed by removing both Ben Foakes and Rehan Ahmed in quick succession, leaving England in a precarious position at 182-7 before Bumrah completed the tail-end cleanup.
