India’s World Cup squad likely to be announced on April 20

Xtra Time Web Desk: The debate as to who will bat at No 4 spot for India during the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in England will be over on April 20 as the selectors are likely to announce the squad for the mega event on the same day. There are a few candidates for the post due to the sudden drop in form of Hyderabad batsman Ambati Rayudu. The name of Rajasthan Royals captain Ajinkya Rahane is making the rounds. Another point of consensus will be to have three spinners in the side. Yuzuvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav are guaranteed of a place. Whether Ravindra Jadeja is included as the third spinner goes to be seen. The only point going against the inclusion of three spinners is the condition in England during the World Cup.

According to selection committee chairman MSK Prasad, “We will be announcing our team for the World Cup on or before April 20.”

Prasad added, “I am confident that we are going to announce a good team. We have worked on this for almost one and a half years. We have observed all the players, tested good combinations.”

According to the tournament’s guidelines, every team has to announce its final squad at least a month prior to the World Cup beginning May 30. The teams, however, can make any any changes to the final squad of 15 at least seven days prior to the tournament, after which point the International Cricket Counil’s Event Technical Committee must approve any such changes.

Kohli and his boys will start their campaign in the tournament against South Africa on June 04 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
