Indian trio advanced to second stage of US Open

Internet Desk: Sania Mirza Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes advanced to the second round of US Open in their respective doubles matches. Sania and Leander showed excellence in their opening matches of the grand slam.

The winning voyage of India was started b6 Rohan Bopanna in the men’s doubles. Bopanna along with his partner Frederik Nielsen beat Radek Stepanek and Nenad Zimonjic. The winners started well but lost the second set. They returned strong in the third set to win the match by 6-3 7-6 6-3.

Sania Mirza was very comfortable with her Czezh partner Barbora Strycova. They won against American pair Jada Hart and Ena Shibahara by 6-3 6-2.

Veteran mixed doubles pair of Leander Paes and Martina Hingis also had an easy win against all US pair of Sachia Vickery and Frances Tiafoe. They won the match by 6-3 6-2. The Indo Swedish pair had long runs to make the match easier for them.

On the other hand top seeds of men’s singles expectedly reached the third round of US Open. Novak Djokovic got a favor of luck as his opponent Jiri Vesely gave a walk over that helped the world no.1 and US Open top seed to advance the third round without any game.

This helped Djokovic take some rest prior to his long run of US Open. In his first match Djokovic nended treatment in his injured hand during the match that seemed that he not totally match fit.

Rafael Nadal continued his relaxed run in this US Open. He won passed the second round against Andreas Seppi by 6-0 7-5 6-1. Only in the second round Nadal looked a little unstable. The fourth seed is looking very strong in this US Open.

Unfortunately there is bad news from the women’s singles. Third seed Garbine Muguruza was crashed out of the US Open in the second round with a stunning defeat against unseeded Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia. She lost by 7-5 6-4.
