Indian pacers to practice with Duke balls for WTC Final preparations, confirm Rohit Sharma

Xtra Time Web Desk: In a bid to prepare well for the World Test Championship Final against Australia in June, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has revealed quite a few plans. Indian pace bowling trio Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav will be handed red Duke balls to practice during the IPL 2023.

BCCI will arrange for Dukes balls for the Indian pacers to practise in the nets during IPL 2023. India captain Rohit Sharma confirmed the same after the conclusion of fourth test against Australia. The Indian team management is leaving no stone unturned and have already started planning for the WTC 2023 Final which will start just a week after IPL 2023. The final of the IPL 2023 is on May 28 while WTC Final will be played from June 7-11 at the Oval.

The test players who are part of the IPL franchises and have not made it to the play-offs will be asked to leave early for a two-week preparatory camp in UK in order to get acclimatised to the conditions. All the fast bowlers who are likely to be part of Indian test squad for WTC Final will be monitored by BCCI.

“We will monitor the workload and bowlers will be given duke balls during IPL for practice ahead of WTC final. By May 21st, 6 teams Will be out of IPL so we will try to get those players early to UK,” said Rohit during the post-match press conference in Ahmedabad.

He added, “Guys, who will be part of finals are not the guys who have not played in UK. May be there could be one or two guys here and there and rest all of us have played in that part of the world. I don’t think it will be huge problem. Look, I believe that preparations will be key for us, come the finals.”
