Xtra Time Web Desk : As Team India gears up for their tour to South Africa, the selectors are in discussion over appointing the Test Vice Captain in the absence of injured Rohit Sharma, who recently replaced Ajinkya Rahane to take up the role. And according to reports, KL Rahul is likely to be announced as the Vice Captain for the Test series against the Proteas.

As per reports, the selectors are not in favour of going back to Rahane for the role of Vice Captain and this are inclined towards Rahul. Apart from the Team India opener, the veteran off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is also in contention and the selectors are waiting for an official consultation with Virat Kohli on the matter.

Speaking about the vice captaincy issue in an interview with the Times of India, a source close to the selectors said, "There’s no point in looking back. At the moment, the odds are tilted towards Rahul. Rahane is not a certainty to start in the playing XI (because of his poor form). Even in the case of Ashwin, the team management has often not played him abroad. In that case, it’s tough to make either of them the vice-captain. The idea is to announce Kohli’s deputy in a day or two."

Jasprit Bumrah is also another name in contention for the role, but the selectors are doubtful over his regular participation in Test cricket as a part of his workload management. Thus it would be interesting to see, who gets to be Team India's Vice Captain.
