India tour to England: VVS Laxman points out Shubman Gill’s flaws in batting technique

Xtra Time Web Desk: The emergence of Shubman Gill has been the best thing to have happened in Indian cricket in the last two years. The youngster burst into prominence with his superb 91 runs knock at Gabba that paved the way for a historic test series win over Australia. But ever since the knock in Brisbane, runs have dried up for the Punjab batsman. Gill has failed to get a score of even 50 in his last 5 test matches.

Former India batsman VVS Laxman feels the 21 year old needs to work on his technique against the incoming delivery. The New Zealand pacers –Tim Southee, Trent Boult consistently troubled Gill during the recently concluded ICC World Test Championship Final at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton with the incoming delivery.

In an interview to Star Sports,Laxman said, “Subhman’s foot movement against incoming deliveries needs to be addressed, especially keeping in mind the England series in which Stuart Broad and James Anderson will test the right-hander with the ball coming in.”

Shubman will have a lot of time (Indian players are enjoying a break of 21 days) to introspect where he has been going wrong and how to overcome it. He will have none other than batting coach Vikram Rathour and Head Coach Ravi Shastri to help him with his technique. With KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal waiting for their opportunities, Gill will need to fix this issue with his technique and get back to scoring runs.
