Alex Carey feels Shreyas Iyer has the potentiality to lead India

Xtra Time Web Desk: Australian wicket keeper batsman Alex Carey on Tuesday said Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer has all the potentiality to become a good leader for his country. Carey, who saw Shreyas from close quarters during his stint at the recently concluded IPL 2020 for Delhi Capitals feels he (Shreyas) has all the acumen to be a good captain. Iyer did a great job as a captain of the Delhi Capitals franchise, taking the team to its maiden final in the cash rich league.

“No doubt he’s got the potential to lead India one day. I think Shreyas is going to be a fantastic leader moving forward,” said Carey during a virtual media conference in Sydney.

Carey went on to share his thoughts about Shreyas, saying, “His ability to connect with all the players in the group was fantastic. He took the focus off himself and worried more about the group. He’s been really successful for the last couple of seasons for Delhi.”

Carey heaped huge praises about Iyer’s ability to manage the team.

“He’s still young and learning his crafts. He’s a fantastic batsman and a great person as well. To connect with every player in a big squad like Delhi is quite a tiring task but he was excellent in managing that. His positive attitude towards the game and his partnership with Ricky really worked well for us. The future is very bright for him,” he said.

India will begin the tour of Australia with the ODI series with the first match on November 27 at Sydney Cricket Ground.
