India Tour of England: Huge relief for Indian team as KL Rahul on course to full recovery; set to travel to UK on this date
Xtra Time Web Desk: The Indian team management will feel a lot relieved as star batter KL Rahul is on his way to recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Rahul will be full fit to travel to UK for the upcoming tour of England. He will fly with the second batch to England on June 19.
Rahul was ruled out of the ongoing T20I series against South Africa after he injured his groin. Rishabh Pant was named the captain of the Indian T20 side.
It was initially planned that Rahul will travel to England with the first batch on June 16 and carry on his rehab. But now he will continue to recover at NCA and will travel to UK with the second batch on June 19.
The test squad members are asked to report in Mumbai on June 15 as the first batch will fly to Heathrow on June 16. Captain Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Hanuma Vihari, Cheteshwar Pujara, KS Bharat (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Mohd Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd Siraj, Umesh Yadav and Prasidh Krishna will be part of the first batch.
While the second batch will include players like KL Rahul (vice-captain), Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Rahul Dravid (Head coach) and the entire support staff.
The players will receive one set of RT-PCR tests before leaving for Mumbai and another before boarding flight. Once they reach London on June 20, they will travel to Leicester. There, India will have a short camp ahead of the warm-up match from June 24.
