India thrash England by an innings & 75 runs, win series 4-0

Internet Desk: India on Tuesday clinched the five-match cricket Test rubber 4-0 as they thrash England by an innings and 75 runs in the fifth and final match at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

India needed 10 wickets at the beginning of the day, were 103/0 with Cook, Jennings and the pitch looking set to defy them, but then Jadeja stepped up. That’s the thing with this Indian side, it manufactures heroes with induced genius.

Nair snaffled the catch one-handed, runs to the stumps and uproots one and so does Kohli, to let out the loudest of roars. Figures of 7/48 for the left-arm spinner, and on the back of Ashwin’s misfortunate spell that could have England all-out twice on a better day.

Ashwin was wicketless, at home, on a day five pitch, and that’s a testament to how good India are as a side right now. Umesh, Ishant and Mishra grabbed one apiece and that was it for England. Pitch was never a roadblock today; their performance-triggered self-doubts were, and the latter won over them.

Brief Scores:

England 1st Innings: 477 & 207 all out in 88 overs (Keaton Jennings 54; R Jadeja 7/48).

India 1st Innings: India 759/7d in 190.4 overs.
