India beat England by an innings and 64 runs in Dharamshala

Xtra Time Web Desk: In a resounding display of dominance, Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma clinched a commanding victory over England in the Dharamshala Test, triumphing by an innings and 64 runs and securing the series with a decisive 4-1 margin. The final Test witnessed a stellar performance from Ravichandran Ashwin, who, with figures of 5 for 77, etched his name alongside spin legends Muttiah Muralidaran, Shane Warne, and Anil Kumble as the only bowlers to claim a five-wicket haul in their 100th Test.

England’s batting lineup crumbled under the relentless pressure exerted by Ashwin, ultimately getting bowled out for 195 in the afternoon session. The lone resistance came from Joe Root, who exhibited a masterful innings of 84 off 128 balls before becoming the last batter to be dismissed.

Earlier, India, in response to England’s 218, added only four runs to their overnight score, finishing their innings at 477. The visitors efficiently wrapped up India’s innings in less than 20 minutes, with veteran James Anderson reaching the milestone of 700 Test wickets.

Young off-spinner Shoaib Bashir continued to impress, achieving his second five-wicket haul in four tests, a remarkable feat for an England bowler before turning 21.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, nursing a stiff back, did not take the field during England’s second innings, with vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah leading the charge alongside Ashwin. Ashwin’s early strikes, dismissing Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, set the tone for England’s struggle.

Despite Jonny Bairstow’s aggressive innings of 39 runs, England faced a collapse with Ashwin accounting for crucial wickets. Jasprit Bumrah’s precise yorkers further dismantled the lower order.

The partnership between Joe Root and Shoaib Bashir offered brief resistance, but eventually, Jadeja intervened. Root’s commendable innings concluded when he was caught at long-off by Jasprit Bumrah off Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling.

India’s comprehensive victory, anchored by Ashwin’s stellar performance, showcased their dominance over England in the Dharamshala Test, culminating in a convincing 4-1 series triumph.
