India at Tokyo Olympics: Sania Mirza & Ankita Raina knocked out in first round in Tennis doubles

Xtra Time Web Desk: Sania Mirza/Ankita Raina lost their women’s doubles first round match 6-0, 6-7, 8-10 against Liudmyla Kichenok/Nadiia Kichenok of Ukraine on Sunday. The Indian pair raised hopes by winning the first set 6-0 but failed to keep the momentum going, losing the next two sets. The Ukrainian team knocked out the Indian pair 6-0, 7-6, 10-8 in one hour and 33 minutes.

The second set saw even contest with the Ukrainian team being able to hold the serve for the very first time in the match but not for long as Sania and Ankita struck back soon. Liudmyla Kichenok and Nadiia Kichenok broke the match serve of the Indian pair and extended the match to the tie-break in the third set.

In the final set, nerves got better of Ankita-Sania as they lost the set 10-8.
For Sania, it was once again a disappointing end in her fourth Olympics while Ankita was competing in her first Olympics.
