Xtra Time Web Desk: India will play against Lebanon in the Intercontinental Cup final on Sunday, June 18. It’s not just about winning the trophy; if India can defeat Lebanon on home soil, they have a great opportunity to climb above 100 in the rankings.

However, experts believe that this final could be challenging for India as they had a goalless draw against Lebanon in the group stage. Head coach Stimac is not entirely satisfied with the team’s performance in that match.

Speaking at a press conference before the match, Stimac said, “We could have won the match, but it didn’t happen. Nevertheless, we need to move forward. Our defense was excellent. Goals will come.”

“I was concerned that we couldn’t create enough opportunities, but it didn’t happen. Our boys played with confidence, and we need to support them to make further progress.”

Journalists gathered for the press conference were joined by goalkeeper Amrinder Singh. Having played for ISL’s Odisha FC, Amrinder is familiar with the Kalinga Stadium and the passion of the supporters.

Amrinder stated, “It’s very special for me to play in front of my supporters.”

“I feel good having Sandesh Jhingan and Anwar Ali in front of me because they give me a lot of confidence. Communication is crucial for a goalkeeper, and it’s easy for us to do it since we don’t have to speak much. We have a good understanding.”

Regarding the final, the confident Stimac said, “We will approach the game with a winning mentality from the first minute. We won’t wait and watch. This match will be different from Thursday.”

“Lebanon has 4-5 players who have experience of playing abroad. They are a technically sound team with good passing abilities. As a team, we performed well in the previous match, and we need to do the same tomorrow. They can hurt us with their individual qualities, so we won’t let them come close to our goal.”
