ICC WTC Final: Fitness update on Rahul, Saha and Prasidh Krishna

Xtra Time Web Desk: With just four more days before the Indian test players are supposed to assemble in Mumbai on May 19, the trio of KL Rahul, Wriddhiman Saha and Prasidh Krishna seems to be fighting time to get fit. Both Saha and Prasidh have tested COVID-19 positive and are in isolation. The Bengal wicketkeeper batsman recently tested positive in quarantine after testing negative. While Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna is yet to return negative and is under isolation in his residence. On the other hand, KL Rahul is recovering from appendicitis surgery that ruled him out of the last IPL 2021 match before the tournament was suspended.

Wriddhiman Saha is the backup wicketkeeper to Rishabh Pant in Test, Prasidh Krishna has been picked up as a standby pacer for the entire England tour.

The players selected for the 20 member test squad to England has been asked to assemble in Mumbai by May 19 and appear for two COVID-19 tests before entering a bio bubble for 10 days. The squad will depart for UK on June 2 where they will undergo further 10 days quarantine.

Wriddhiman Saha: Wriddhiman Saha tested positive in the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp before the IPL 2021 was suspended. After 10 days in quarantine, he returned a negative test but tested positive again in the 2nd test to extend his quarantine period. He has been isolating in Delhi and there is a big question mark on his fitness.

Prasidh Krishna: Prasidh Krishna tested positive after returning home in Bengaluru from the Kolkata Knight Riders camp after the IPL 2021 was suspended. He is still recovering and in home isolation. With May 19 being the cutoff date, he needs to test negative twice before that date to leave isolation.

KL Rahul: KL Rahul is recovering from appendicitis surgery on May 3. He is currently healing from the surgery and it takes about 10-15 days for complete recovery. Considering he is 12 days into the recovery period, he is expected to join Team India’s bio-bubble on May 19 as instructed by the BCCI.
