Xtra Time Web Desk: A five wicket haul from Kyle Jamieson and a half century from Devon Conway put New Zealand in a strong position after Day 3 of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship final against India at the Ageas Bowl on Sunday. BlackCaps have scored 101/2 when bad light stopped play meaning they still trail by 116 runs with eight wickets in hand.

Earlier India after resuming on 146-3, were bowled out for 217 as Jamieson – playing in just his eighth Test match – produced figures of 5-31 from 22 overs.

In response, New Zealand openers Tom Latham (30) and Devon Conway (54) gave a solid start, adding 70 runs. Conway scored his third half century in just his fifth Test innings but the South African born batsman was left to rue an uncharacteristic lapse in concentration when he succumbed just moments before bad light brought a premature end to proceedings, to give India some impetus heading into day four. He was caught by Mohammed Shami off the bowling of Ishant Sharma.

Nevertheless, it was a frustrating day for Kohli’s side, who lost seven wickets for just 71 runs as New Zealand’s formidable seam quartet taking control, with Kyle Jamieson (5-27), Neil Wagner (2-40), Trent Boult (2-47) and Tim Southee (1-64) all among the wickets.

Black Caps’ captain Kane Williamson (12 no) and experienced Ross Taylor will have the responsibility of taking the score ahead.
