Xtra Time Web Desk: Italy maintained a perfect record as they defeated 10 men Wales 1-0 in EURO 2020 Group A clash at the Olimpico stadium on Sunday night. Matteo Pessina scored the winner for the Azzurri’s in the 39th minute of the match. Wales were reduced to 10 men as Ethan Ampadu was flashed a straight red card for deliberately coming down on Federico Bernardeschi’s ankle with his studs.

Despite the loss, Wales still sealed the second spot in Group A and a place in the last 16 of Euro 2020

Matteo Pessina had given Italy a deserved lead (39) and Federico Bernardeschi hit the woodwork with a free-kick just after half-time as Roberto Mancini’s team showed their strength in depth, although Gareth Bale should have claimed a famous draw for his side when he wastefully volleyed over late on.

Italy will be facing the runners-up of Group C at Wembley later on Saturday.

In another Group A clash Switzerland missed out on a top-two finish on goal difference despite a 3-1 victory over Turkey in Baku National Stadium on Sunday. Haris Seferovic (6) and Xherdan Shaqiri (26 and 68) were on the score sheet for the Swiss.

Switzerland will have to wait to see if their tally of four points is enough to qualify for the last 16 as one of the four best third-placed sides.
