ICC CWC 2019: Why India is starting its World Cup campaign so late?

Sabyasachi Bagchi: Team India yet to play their first game in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup as the tournament started 30 th May World Cup is going on in full flow in England and Wales. Every team has played at least one match except for India. India will play their first match on June 5 against South Africa by then the Proteas would have already played two matches and they will be playing their third one against India.

Indian is the only team who get time to settle themselves with the conditions. This is going to be a tactical advantage for the men in blue. Asian teams are not in a very good touch as all of them lost their first game. Though, Pakistan won their second match against South Africa.
The narrative for Asian countries might change as soon as India step on the ground on June 5. India has one of the best teams in the tournament with top two ODI players and number one ODI bowler in their side.
If reports are to be believed India were supposed to play their first match on June 2 but the schedule was tweaked after the all-powerful Indian cricket board requested the ICC to postpone India’s first match. One of the BCCI official said,” Lodha Committee to the ICC which states that India is supposed to play only after a 15-day recovery period.” He also said, “General Election was going on in this year and earlier, the IPL final was scheduled in 19 May but it was played in 12 May for the General Election. Though the World Cup schedule was released already. ICC was given 15 days rest. So India is going to play their first game in 3rd June.”
