ICC CWC 2019: What is Shankar thinking after getting a maiden call up in the World Cup squad?

XtraTime Web Desk: The Indian selectors have picked Vijay Shankar as the specialist batsman at number four for the nation in the forthcoming World Cup and it will be a huge pressure for him there as he got a chance ahead of the veteran cricketers like Ajinkya Rahane & Ambati Rauydu. When asked what was going through his mind ahead of the selection Shankar said,”I think I was just trying to keep it simple. Even when the IPL started you know we had a lot of talks regarding the selection and everything. I was just thinking about what I should do here, so I feel being consistent is something important for any cricketer and I always look to prepare myself to the best and just doing that and didn’t think much about selection.”

Shankar revealed that he felt really well after the selection but his focus is currently with SunRisers Hyderabad. “I felt really good. It’s a dream for any cricketer to get a chance in the World Cup squad so it felt good but still it’s very important to stay in present and give my best for the team here,” added Shankar.

On being asked whether he has changed his game in last couple of years Shankar said,”I think I am enjoying the game a lot more. I had a very good start in last few games but you know if I see myself I could have done a lot better. I am just trying to play better cricket in that aspect. “
