Debasis Sen, Southampton: India all rounder Vijay Shankar on Friday declared he is ready to take the field during Saturday’s World Cup clash against Afghanistan here at the Hampshire Bowl. Addressing the media on the eve of the match, Vijay, on his toe injury said, "I've got a lot better."
Elaborating on his injury, Vijay said he was not surprised when a ball from Jasprit Bumrah landed on his toes. "Actually, when you play someone like Bumrah, you always expect that. Still, sometimes we do miss that," said Shankar.

Shankar injured his toe after being hit by toe a crushing yorker from Jasprit Bumrah on Wednesday. He was forced to skip Thursday’s training session of the team.

As the Afghanistan players were going through their fielding drills at the main ground, Shankar along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar arrived at the stadium with physio Patrick Farhat and strength and mental conditioning coach Shankar Basu. The Tamil Nadu all rounder hugged his Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate Rashid Khan as he started his lap around the ground. After taking the lap, Shankar headed straight t to the practice nets in the middle. He was soon bowling at the stumps while Bhuvneshwar took short sprints in front of Shankar Basu and Patrick Farhat. Later Patrick was seen showing thumbs up to Shankar when he came out after bowling a few balls at the nets.

Bhuvneshwar though looked in some sort of concerns and might have to wait until the next match against West Indies on July 27. He is yet to recover from the hamstring injury he suffered in the game against Pakistan at Manchester.
