“I was waiting for this since the World Cup”: Mohammed Siraj after receiving best fielder’s medal

Xtra Time Web Desk: The buzz surrounding the revival of fielding awards in the Indian dressing room took centre stage following the T20I series against South Africa in Johannesburg on Thursday. Originating from the recently concluded ODI World Cup, the decision by Team India’s management to institute a ‘dressing room medal ceremony’ had become an instant social media sensation.

This innovative concept was conceived by Team India’s fielding coach, T Dileep, with the intention of fostering a strong fielding culture within the team. The post-match ceremony in the dressing room on Thursday night featured three notable contenders for the coveted medal – Rinku Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Mohammed Siraj. Ultimately, the honour was bestowed upon Siraj.

The fast bowler could not hide his emotions after receiving the award. Amidst a rousing cheer from teammates, Siraj said that this was not just a medal for him. He has been waiting to receive this medal since the World Cup but finally received it. For him the lesson learnt was never give up.
