Kolkata: The final of the WBTTA 2017 was held at Sakti Sangha, Naktala between Howrah Annapurna Bayam Samity (HABS) and East Kolkata Table Tennis Promotional Organisation (EKTTPO) where the former became the champions for the second time after defeating the latter with a score of 4-3. The digital partner of this prestigious tournament was XtraTime.

HABS who were losing the game by 1-3 at one stage, revived with full vigour and took the winners medal.

“Although we were trailing behind there was never any real pressure. Previously we had faced situations like these and my players can handle pressure easily as there are many important international players in my team” said Amit Mukherjee the coach of HABS.

“My match was very vital for the game. I needed to win my match and after winning my match the momentum shifted and we continued winning and became the champions” said Anirban Nandi, the captain of HABS.

The match of mixed doubles saw Anirban Ghosh and Tekmi Sarkar losing to Arjun Ghosh and Mousumi Pal 2-3.

Soumadeep Ghosh lost his match 0-3 to Arjun Ghosh.

Tekmi Sarkar won her match against Rupsa Bhattacharya by a score 3-1.

Anirban Nandi won his game against Jaideep Das by 3-2.

Anirban Ghosh defeated Jeet Chandra by 3-1.

Varuni Jaisawal defeated Shrubabati Moitra 3-0.

Anirban Nandi the captain of HABS was adjudged the Best Player of the Final Match and Tournament and was awarded Rs. 5000 for Men’s category while Mousumi Paul of EKTTPO too was awarded Rs. 5000 from the Women’s category.

Anirban Ghosh of HABS was awarded Rs. 3000 for being the best from the Youth Boys category. The best venue award went to Chatra Sangha, Garfa and they were awarded Rs. 2000 while the Fair Play Trophy was given to LW table Tennis Academy and they received price money of Rs. 2000.

The Champions i.e Howrah Annapurna Bayam Samity was awarded Rs. 100000, while runners up East Kolkata Table Tennis Promotional Organisation got Rs. 50000 and third placed Naihati Youth Association got Rs. 25000.

“I am really excited after successfully organizing this grand tournament. Players from other states came and participated in the tournament added to its grandeur” said Debi Prosad Basu, the honorable General Secretary of WBTTA.

Renowned film director Shiboprosad Mukherjee was also present to witness the final of the tournament.“I have loved this game from my childhood and I find immense pleasure in playing this game. In the future I want to make a movie based on the life of Table Tennis player” he added.

The director was mesmerized to watch Anindita Chakraborty, a tennis player who continued playing even after her marriage and becoming a mother. Mukherjee is set to make the film based on her life.
