Xtra Time Web Desk: Gujarat Titans batter Shubman Gill on Friday said his 129 runs knock in the IPL 2023 Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians is his best in IPL career so far. Gill smashed his way to a scintillating hundred off just 49 balls.

“I think this was probably my best innings so far in the IPL,” said Shubman while speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony.

From the last WI tour, I think I have shifted a gear, I got injured before the last IPL but I have been working on my game. I have worked on a few areas and made technical changes ahead of the NZ series after the T20I World Cup.

It was the third hundred for Shubman in the last 4 matches in the ongoing IPL season. His previous two tons came against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Talking about his knock, Shubman said, “For me, it is playing ball to ball, over to over. The over where I hit three sixes gave me the momentum to go big. That’s when I realised it could be my day. It was a good wicket to bat on as well.”

Shubman reached his hundred in just 49 balls that included 8 sixes and 4 fours.  In doing so he joined the likes of Virat Kohli (4 tons for Royal Challengers Bangalore, 2016) and Jos Buttler (4 for Rajasthan Royals, 2022) have scored more tons than Gill in a single IPL edition.

“You keep inventing as a batter but for me the belief is more important. I am coming off a good international season as well. Had a good season last time as well. When I start well, I feel confident I can score well,” Shubman said.

He added, “Expectations are something that follow you outside the ropes, but once you step on the field it is all about trying how to contribute for the team.”

Shubman currently has 851 runs in in the IPL 2023. Only Virat Kohli (973, RCB, 2016) and Jos Buttler (863, RR, 2022) have scored more runs than him in a single season.
