I-League 2018/19: ‘Khalid era’ begins in Mohun Bagan with a convincing win over Minerva Punjab

Kolkata:
A convincing debut as Mohun Bagan coach for Khalid Jamil, as the Green and Maroon brigade, comes back into the winning ways with a 2-0 victory over defending champions Minerva Punjab FC at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata. Dipanda Dicka and Omar El Hossieny found their names on the scoresheet.

Bagan took the lead in the 30th minute through the penalty spot. Kinowaki and Norde led the attack with Dipanda sent through by the Haitian. The Cameroonian forward went down against Toure’s tackle and Khalid Jamil’s team got a penalty. Omar made no mistake from the spot.

Bagan doubled their lead in the 69th minute through Dipanda Dicka, who was having a torrid time of late. Dipanda made the best of Khalid’s confidence of starting him instead of Kisekka as he waited patiently to time his run to perfection before latching on to Norde’s through ball and slotting it past the Minerva custodian.

The win takes the Mariners to 18 points off 12 games, one point shy of arch-rivals East Bengal, who played two games lesser than them.
