Internet Desk: 19 year old Deepti Sharma will be surprised to know that she was trending on social media on Wednesday. A superlative performance from the new prodigy of the Indian women’s cricket team, ensured a 19 run win over the Sri Lankan women in the ensuing ICC Women’s World Cup in Derby.

The 19-year-old all-rounder from Uttar Pradesh scored a valiant 78 runs and took the vital wicket of Manodara Sulangika (61), who threatened to take away the match from India.

Regarded as the best young talent, Deepti already boats of holding many records under her name.

In May this year, she was part of a 320-run partnership with Poonam Raut, which is the first ever 300-plus partnership in Women’s cricket. Deepti scored 188 off 160 balls, the second highest in women’s cricket.

According to Rita Dey, who coached her, “When she first came here, she was a medium pacer. But after seeing her bowl at tghe nets for a month, we suggested her to bowl off-spin. It was really amazing to see her master bowling the off-spin.

Deepti’s love for the game began at a childhood age when she went to the nets of Eklavya Sports Stadium in Agra with his brother Sumit, who himself is a cricketer. He represented Uttar Pradesh in U-22 CK Nayudu Trophy.

One day while a ball came towards her while Sumit was practising at the nets, she took casual aim and hit the stumps.

Interestingly, this was watched by the former Indian batsman and current BCCI women’s selection panel chairperson Hemlata Kala. She immediately instructed Sumit to get her sister into cricket. Deepti started her formal cricketing training under Sumit.

A huge fan of Suresh Raina, Deepti is naturally a right handed cricketer. But she soon settled into a left-hander’s grip on her own. Ever since she made her debut in International cricket against South Africa in 2014, her cricketing career has taken a upward flight.
