Hardik & co begin training at Basin Reserve ahead of first T20I; enjoy strength training on the beaches | NZvIND

Xtra Time Web Desk: The Indian cricketers are enjoying their trip to New Zealand. Hardik Pandya and his boys seems to be enjoying the beautiful beaches in Wellington. Hardik, who will be leading the T20 squad in the absence of Rohit Sharma, was seen doing strength training along with Shreyas Iyer, Umran Malik and Washington Sundar.

The Indian team also had their first full training session at the Basin Reserve on Tuesday. Coach VVS Laxman was seen spending time with Rishabh Pant in and after the nets. Few Indian cricketers were seen in the hotel gym as well.

The likes of Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal arrived in New Zealand straight from Australia after the T20 World Cup. The quartet started with their preparations after a short break, with Chahal and Co beginning with their gym sessions on Monday & Tuesday. The other members of the squad including coach VVS Laxman arrived in Wellington on Tuesday morning.

India have named a young side for the series against New Zealand with an eye towards building a team for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

As far as the series is concerned, all eyes will be on the batting unit with as many as four openers fighting for a place in the side. Ishan Kishan is likely to be first choice, while the likes of Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson all stand a chance to bat at the top of the order.

The three match T20I series kickstarts on Thursday, November 18 at the Sky Stadium in Wellington.
