Growing concerns with Jasprit Bumrah’s back injury ahead of T20 World Cup? Report

Xtra Time Web Desk: In what could turn out to be a huge blow for India, Jasprit Bumrah is running the risk of missing the marquee event which is scheduled to begin in October Down Under. Bumrah has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 due to his ‘back injury’. It is learnt it is the same serious injury that has forced him to stay away from cricket in 2019. It has resurfaced again to haunt him. The Indian team management and selectors are worried, with just a month left to announce the squad for T20 World Cup 2022.

According to a report in Inside Sport, a senior BCCI official has claimed that the injury is concerning as it is the old injury which has resurfaced. It was the worst possible time the injury has happened again with two months left for the T20 World Cup.

In recent times, Bumrah has spent a long time on the side-lines with his nagging back injury. Experts feel it’s his unusual action that takes a toll on his body and he suffers frequent injuries. But he seemed to have recovered from that and played crucial matches for India. However, the injury has come back to haunt him once again.

It was a lower back stress fracture that ruled him out for many months. But now with T20 World Cup around the corner, India cannot afford to lose him again. While it is not a stress fracture, considering his history of injuries, it is causing big concern.

If Bumrah is ruled out, it will be a body blow to India’s chances at the T20 World Cup in Australia. If Bumrah doesn’t recover in time, selectors could recall Mohammed Shami to T20s. Shami was informed by the selectors and team management that he won’t be considered for India’s T20Is.
