Indian national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand Lauds Rituparna’s success.

Internet Desk : National Badminton Coach Pullela Gopichand poured accolades to Rituparna Das who won the Polish Open after defeating fellow Indian Rasika Raje in the women’s singles final of the International challenge badminton event in Beirun on Sunday. Rituparna beat Rasika 11-21 21-7 21-17 in a 40-minute clash. Rituparna also happens to be a product of Gopichand’s Badminton academy in Hyderabad. Rituparna was down first set 11-21 and came back strongly to win the match.
Lauding Rituparna Gopichand said, “It’s a good victory, it is always difficult for any shuttler to come back in the last two sets she has shown real character to win the match, she has immense fighting spirit”.

Rituparna had to receive a big jolt when she had suffered severe knee injury 2 years ago while playing in a ranking tournament in Sri Lanka. That was followed by a knee operation which forced Rituparna to be out of the court for all most more than one- and-half years. Gopichand, while speaking over phone on his student’s success, said, “It has been a great achievement as Rituparna had to spend one and half years, just lying down on the bed. And she has been training just for last 3 to 4 months. I knew, once she starts getting mentally strong she will be able to win more titles.”
Regarding Rituparna’s positives in Badminton Gopi went on to say,” Her height is an advantage and she can hit good smashes, her back hand is strong too. Her leg muscle is very strong so she can rally between the courts for long and to continue success she has to concentrate to devolop her present skills”.
Pullela Gopichand has no regrets about Saina Nehwal leaving his camp and when asked if more such incidents take place how will he react to it? According to Pulella, “I have not brought anyone to coach under me and neither will i ask anyone to leave, it is their individual choice. My best wishes will always be with them wherever they play”.
Regarding training Rituparna Gopi said,”I believe in positive criticism when she practices and always stressed her to focus on her strengths and have a positive approach towards the game”.
