French Open Super Series: Sindhu Prannoy makes second round exits

Internet Desk: India’s challenges at the ongoing French Open Super Series ended after Rio Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu and Swiss Open winner HS Prannoy suffered straight-games defeat at the hands of their respective opponents in Paris on Thursday.

The world No.8 was unable to continue her prime form of Rio Olympics and lost the match to He Bingjiao of China by 20-22, 17-21 in the second-round women’s singles tie that lasted for 41 minutes.

In Men’s singles Prannoy started on a strong note against fifth-seed Chou Tien Chen,but could not carry his momentum under pressure and ended up suffering a 19-21, 16-21 defeat in the pre-quarterfinal match that lasted for 42 minutes.

Earlier in the tournament sixth seed Sindhu dished out a gritty performance to prevail 21-9 29-27 over Hong Kong’s Yip Pui Yin in a women’s singles match and Prannoy swept aside Boonsak Ponsana of Thiland 21-16, 21-18 to advance to the second round.
