Former India opener Shiv Sundar Das to be interim selection committee chairman after the resignation of Chetan Sharma

Xtra Time Web Desk: Former India opener Shiv Sunder Das will be the new interim chairman of the selection committee after Chetan Sharma resigned from his post on Friday. Sharma submitted his resignation letter which was accepted by the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.

Shiv Sundar Das, who played 23 tests and is the most experienced among the four members in the will head the current selection committee during the interim period. BCCI will soon appoint a new member in the selection committee.

It is learnt that Chetan Sharma was not forced to resign by the Indian cricket board. But the current test captain Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya has expressed their reservations to the Board hierarchy to not sit in the selection meeting with Chetan. Following which Sharma decided to resign.

Meanwhile the selection meeting will go ahead to pick the squad for remaining two more tests of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy. The meeting will take place after the Ranji Trophy final at Eden Gardens. All the five selectors were present at Eden Gardens to witness the Ranji Trophy Final on Day 1. Chetan had to leave for Delhi after he resigned from his post.

The sting operation by the national news channel wasn’t very revealing, but it had put the richest cricket board in an uncomfortable position with the players.
