Xtra Time Web Desk: Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has praised Rishabh Pant for his performance in the T20 World Cup 2024. Despite the Indian openers' failure, Pant showcased intent and resilience, scoring 20 off 21 balls. Speaking on Star Sports after India's victory against Afghanistan on Thursday, June 20, Gavaskar highlighted Pant's fitness and agility, noting his significant improvement on the field.

"It's a miracle, you know? We were all so concerned after his accident and the severity of his injuries. We prayed for his recovery, but not only has he come back, he's come back stronger. He's lost some weight, which was needed, and now he looks so fit," Gavaskar remarked. He praised Pant's willingness to run and catch balls, reflecting his dedication to fitness.

Gavaskar also commented on Pant's batting performance, acknowledging his potential for growth with age. Although Pant looked promising against Afghanistan, he was dismissed attempting a reverse sweep against Rashid Khan, resulting in an LBW.

"This is the maturity that is so important. We've seen it with Hardik Pandya, and now we are seeing it in Rishabh Pant's cricket. Understanding conditions and maintaining his attacking style is crucial. He may not have scored many runs, but his 20 off 21 balls at a strike rate of nearly 100 was what the team needed at that stage," Gavaskar concluded.
